Multiple Amenities Of A Home Theater

By George Binder

On a hot day, get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. Arrive at the theater and wait in an impossibly long line that won't move. Become drenched in sweat and discomfort as the body heat of the multitudes surrounding you mixes with the unrelenting heat of a summer day. Get to the ticket window only to discover that the best shows are all sold out. Buy a ticket to some obscure low budget film, just so the long drive and the standing in line do not go to waste. Choose the perfect seat. Then, have strangers sit on either side while a group of unruly juveniles fill the next row. Struggle to follow or even hear the film as the juveniles gossip loudly and text on their cell phones. Drive all the way back wondering why so much money spent on something that was supposed to be relaxing only increased stress levels. An experience like this makes it easy to see why people are starting to choose a home theater over the movie theater.

Because so many new options have become available, it is now very easy to view a recently released movie at home. These choices are less costly than a movie ticket. In this economic climate, most households are searching for ways to reduce costs. Fuel costs have risen dramatically. Less driving saves money, too.

Another high cost at the movie theater is food. People are not allowed to bring their own to the show and snacks at the concessions stand get very expensive. Food choices are also limited, usually to very unhealthy options. When staying in, the menu has no limit besides imagination or budget. Waist watchers can choose low calorie selections. Many health conditions require a restricted diet and those needs can be met. Those who love coffee can sip their chosen blend. A glass of wine or a beer can be enjoyed as well.

There is also privacy. No crowd bars the way to the ticket window, because there is no need for one. No rude or aggravating strangers can spoil the experience of the movie. The people who sit together are loved ones and generally do not throw spit balls.

Theater seating has been renovated in recent years to add features and comfort. However, that favorite chair or sofa in the living room will always give more comfort. A person can stretch out at home. They can use pillows and blankets. They can even wear pajamas. There is absolute environmental control. Even the thermostat can be adjusted so no one will be chilled by an overpowered air conditioner.

Complete environmental control means atmosphere is in the hands of the viewer as well. Some like total darkness. Some like to dimmer the lights. It is even possible to use candles to create ambiance. Control allows for a more enjoyable viewing.

The best thing that watching a film at home allows, which could never happen in a movie theater, is control of the film. If anyone needs to take a quick break, the film can be paused. An interesting part can be replayed.

There are a lot of reasons that a home theater is a worthwhile investment. It saves money on tickets and fuel. It saves time that would be spent driving or standing in lines. It provides greater ease and comfort. Viewers can stretch out on furniture of their own choosing and wear relaxed clothing, even pajamas. Finally, it puts control of the experience back in the hands of the viewer who can choose the food, the lighting, and even control the film. It is no wonder that more and more people are choosing to watch movies at home.
