The proper way to Get the Most Out of Your Home Theater System

By Jane Merloft

A home theater is a set up that you incorporate at your house to offer you an identical effect of watching movies in your home much the same way you would watch them in a theater. In recent times, many leading giants that manufacture consumer electronics have come up with various models of home theaters that have different and fascinating features. You could have purchased the best home theater system but if you do not install it correctly, you won't get your money's worth. You can get assistance from the dealer you bought the home theater to set it up for you or do it on your own using the instruction book that comes with the home theater.

Setting up a home theater on your own is not as tricky and challenging as it sounds if you follow 1 or 2 basic Do's and Don'ts. Often folks passionate about electronics love taking up this adventure of trying the setup themselves. As a primary step to connecting the home theater surround system, determine the audio connection. To try this, connect the digital output found at the rear of your DVD player and the audio output of your TV to the digital audio input of the receiver of the home theater. It is worthwhile noting that not all TVs will have audio outputs. If yours is one of them, just do the linkage between the DVD player and the home theater receiver.

After creating the audio connection, move on to the video connection. Connect the video wire to the input of the AV receiver or home theater receiver and then utilize a second wire to make the link between the output of the receiver and video input of the television. You can connect the video wire to your TV too. However if you do this, you won't be well placed to see the receiver's screen menu on your TV to help you with the set-up. Also, the two-step connection helps both the television and DVD to get satellite or cable signals.

If you have a Blu-Ray player or a HD-DVD player with HDMI connections on your AV receiver and can access sound and video signals, then the connection is all the easier. All that you've got to do is connect the HDMI output of your DVD player to the AV receiver and then have another connection between the receiver and the television.

The final step in setting up the home theater involves putting up the speakers and the subwoofer. Connect the speakers to the right channels with the AV receiver. You need to ensure that the polarity matches when this connection is done. After this, place the speakers in the required positions. Finally, connect the subwoofer output of the AV receiver to the input of the subwoofer.

You needn't keep the volume level of the surround speakers very high. Always keep in mind that these speakers provide the desired sound effects only when there is some action taking place in the background. They are not intended to help hear people speaking in a loud manner. And, don't keep your television screen setting at the brightest mode. This may reduce the lifetime of the projector screen.

For a regular person, setting up your home theater system will take about one and a half hours to accomplish. However if you're a professional in assembling electronic gadgets, you may be able to finish the assembly in shorter time.
